I haven’t posted in a long time…but I think its time to get back into it. I have just started my 2nd year of university and this is my first project of the year.
The brief was to create a public service announcement relating to “you are what you eat”. I often hear people saying that anorexia is just one of those “silly diets” for this project I want to show that its more than that and that it is a serious illness. My models hold a brain in their hands to symbolise that anorexia is one of the biggest killer of any mental illness in the UK, photographed next to their small waists to symbolise an eating disorder. I have photographed these images in a dark tone to give more emotion to the images as a mental illness is is something that is not bright and colourful.
Today I have handed in my first university project. I must say That I am really happy with the images that I have created.
I focused on Love as a subject, as the brief I was given was “relationship”. In these images, I have used my self and my other half, I had the opportunity to capture our love and how we care for each other in an image. I have captured this before in selfies where we are happy with smiles and laughter. but in these images, I have captured our love as an art.
A Cyanotypes is a photographic printing process and these images are made without a camera. the paper for this process is dipped into chemicals which react to UV light. I placed the flowers on top of paper and then placed them under the UV lamp for 3 minuets. when the paper is removed from underneath the UV lamp the area that has been exposed to light is a grey colour and the area which has not been exposed to light is a yellow colour which is the chemicals that haven’t been exposed to light. what is interesting about Cyanotypes it can be placed under the uv lamp again if you want to add more detail to where you placed the objects so a laced piece of fabric would work really well to add more detail. once your print is ready it is placed into water to wash off the yellow chemical. this the makes the print no longer sensitive to UV light.
and this is the end result
I have now started my final project in foundation art. For my Final project I am woking with nature as a subject. each week I will be working with a different form of photography.
here I have created Cyanotypes. this was my first time on creating Cyanotypes and this is one of my new favourite forms of photography as it is so simple but yet it creates a stunning interesting image just like my love for photograms. what I like about Cyanotypes more is that you don’t need a Dark room and it is much more healthier for the environment, as I can use the Sun light to develop the Cyanotypes. but for these images I used a UV Lamp as it is much more quicker process
I lived in Blaenau ffestiniog in the summer of 2016 for work. I actually thought the town was quit boring apart from the Zip World site and the Down hill biking centre. it constantly rains in Blaenau ffestiniog, so it always looks quite gloomy there apart from when it snows and all the slate is covered in beautiful white powder.
I now do not live in Blaenau ffestiniog and I had always seen some beautiful images of the mountain and some beautiful walks that are in Blaenau ffestiniog. I went back to visit the town to take some photographs for my next college project and I was taken up into the queries in Tan-y-Grisiau where I found this beautiful landscape and old slate buildings. I did not get to spend much time taking images up there but I cant wait to go back and visit and take some more photographs (maybe in some better weather)
I wanted to create a new project over the winter to keep me occupied until it is warmer to continue shooting more self portraits
In this project I have decided to look into the detail of skin as there are many different textures on one personas body and there is so much detail. I have shot my models ribs, spine, hands (with Chalk), and stomach. I would like to focus more on skin and shoot with different models.
For this project we where given quotes to make a 3 minuet video piece. The video Piece had to be based on a quote. I had chosen a quote by Anton Chekov
“don’t tell me the moon is shinning; show me the glint of light on broken glass”
I chose this quote as I was instantly inspired and thought this would be a great opportunity to work with low light and bokeh. This video had to be created in an abstract way to create a unique piece. I was also inspired by “blink 182 Always” music video
I have now had a bit of practice with film work as my current project in Foundation Art is digital story telling, for this project we where taken to Coed-Y-Brenin. We where told to create a film that lasted 30 seconds and to capture what coed-Y-Brenin.
Coed-Y-Brenin is a popular forest park. It is popular for its mountain bike trails and hiking paths. I wanted to capture how man and the forest have come together.
I have visited Menorca twice now, I love it for its warmth and its spanish food and the spanish buildings, Menorca is more of a holiday than my other travels i have been on but that doesn’t stop me from capturing the beauty of this island.
the Isle of man is a second home to me. for such a small island it is beautiful place and would definitely recommend visiting there. TT weeks is my favourite time to go as the island is so full of life but unfortunately as i am a student I cannot visit the island during TT week as it is held the same weeks as exams are. I have visited the Island many times but this was the first time I put more passion in taking photos of the island. I captured many stunning images but I have chosen to present my favourite black and white images that I captured. My Favourite place to visit on the island is the Milners tower at Bradda Head, I enjoyed this place for the view and for the sea Cliff edges and is a perfect place to photograph.
